The working principle of the coal mill

The working principle of the coal mill is quite fascinating. It involves a complex process that ensures efficient and effective grinding of coal to produce energy.

The raw coal is fed into the mill through a central inlet pipe where it falls onto the rotating grinding table. The table spins at a constant speed, causing the coal to be crushed between its surface and the rollers.

As the coal gets crushed, hot air is blown into the mill from an air inlet located in the bottom section of the mill. This heated air dries and transports the pulverized coal particles upwards towards a classifier.

Inside the classifier, larger particles are returned back to be re-grinded while finer particles are entrained by a stream of air and carried out of the mill for further processing or combustion.

This continuous cycle ensures that only properly ground coal is delivered to burners for power generation or other industrial applications.

Understanding how this intricate system works allows us to appreciate its significance in harnessing energy from one of our most abundant natural resources – coal!
