How is ceramsite sand made?
Ceramsite sand is a type of lightweight aggregate that is commonly used in the construction industry. It is made by firing clay at high temperatures to create small, porous pellets that are then cooled and crushed into sand-like particles.
The process begins with raw materials such as clay and shale being extracted from quarries. These materials are then transported to a processing plant where they are crushed and screened to remove impurities.

How is ceramsite sand made with PCL sand crusher?
Once the raw materials have been prepared, they are mixed together in specific proportions to form a homogenous mixture. This mixture is then fed into a rotary kiln where it undergoes extreme heat (up to 1200 degrees Celsius) for several hours.
During this process, the clay particles begin to expand due to the release of water vapor. This expansion creates tiny pockets of air within each pellet which gives ceramsite its unique lightweight properties.
After being fired, the pellets are left to cool before being crushed into small, uniform grains of sand. The resulting ceramsite sand can be used as an excellent substitute for traditional aggregates such as gravel or sand in various applications including concrete production and landscaping projects.
