The country’s top tin ore-producing regions
Indonesia is a major producer of tin ore, and the country’s top tin ore-producing regions are located in the provinces of North Sumatra, South Sumatra, and Bangka-Belitung. In recent years, Indonesia has been investing heavily in the development of its tin mining industry, and as a result, production levels have risen significantly.

The majority of Indonesia’s tin ore reserves are located in the island of Bangka, which is home to four of the country’s top five tin mines. PT Timah, Indonesia’s largest tin producer, operates three mines on Bangka Island – Pamatongan, Emas Betutu, and Hokko. Together, these mines account for around 60% of PT Timah’s total production.
South Sumatra is another important region for Indonesia’s tin mining industry. The province is home to PT Timah’s second-largest mine, Bangkawan, which has an annual capacity of 20 thousand tonnes. Additionally, there are a number of smaller-scale mines scattered throughout South Sumatra that producetin ore.
